I love making dynamic and delectable dishes, and my Htipiti Greek Red Pepper Feta Dip is a terrific trifecta of taste, prep, and presentation. Creamy feta cheese mingles with tangy Greek yogurt to make a gloriously creamy base.

Sweet roasted red peppers—my favorite way to use bell peppers—and a few straggler dabs of mayo make this dip sing with the richness of flavor. Then, we just hit it with a touch of seasoning and some pure fresh lemon juice to give it the boost of flavor it needs to go from wow to YOWZA.

(Or wowza, if you prefer.) This one’s good enough to eat straight out of the bowl.

FAQ

  • Q: Can I use fresh red bell peppers instead of roasted ones?A: Sure, but the kind of roasting usually done which improves their flavor involves the use of a fire. That’s something most people can’t do at home. However, if you intend to recreate the taste of a caratteri…
  • Q: Is there a substitute for Greek yogurt? You can opt for sour cream or cream cheese for a thicker dip, though it might slightly change the flavor. 1. Squeeze as much moisture as possible from the spinach (see Note). 2. Chop the spinach finely.
  • Q: How long does this dip last in the fridge? It survives for approximately 3 to 4 days when kept in an air-tight container in the cool confines of an under-the-counter refrigerator.
  • Q: Is this dip suitable for vegetarians?A: Yes, this dip is friendly to vegetarians because it does not contain any meat.
  • Q: Can I make this dip spicy?Sure! If you want it hotter, you can put in more of the crushed red pepper flakes, or throw in a little cayenne pepper for fun.
  • Q: What can I serve with Htipiti?A: Pair it with pita bread, carrot sticks, or use it as a spread for sandwiches and wraps.
  • Q: Can I make this dip ahead of a party?A: Yes. It’s an even better dish when made a few hours in advance so the flavors have a chance to meld. Just store it in the fridge until half an hour before serving.

Substitutions and Variations

Feta cheese: Use ricotta for a creamier texture, or goat cheese for a more pronounced flavor.
Greek yogurt: Substitute with sour cream or plain yogurt if Greek yogurt is not on hand.
Roasted red bell peppers: Piquillo peppers or jarred roasted peppers can be used as an alternative.
Substitute avocado oil or sunflower oil for a different flavor profile from extra-virgin olive oil.
Juice of lemon: Use vinegar of white wine or vinegar of apple cider as a substitute for a similar acidity.
